Adnan Syed’s brother wrote on Facebook on Monday that the subject of the Serial podcast’s first season is being kept from seeing a doctor despite “severely deteriorating” health as he serves a life sentence for the 1999 Baltimore murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee.
As reported by Justin Fenton in the Baltimore Sun, Yusuf Syed wrote that Adnan “cannot get out of bed at times and has been getting paralysis in his left arm. Also he has fainted a couple of times.”
“The people at the correctional facility just give him tylenol they won’t [l]et him see a doctor,” he wrote.
Yusuf urged supporters to write to Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan to ask that he “get some medical attention.”
A prison spokesman told the Sun that officials “are monitoring his case closely to ensure he gets the proper medical attention.”
Adnan has a post-conviction hearing scheduled for Feb. 5.
