JW, a Baltimore native, grew up a little differently than others his age. He spent his early years foxhunting. His family wholeheartedly encouraged his dream to ride racehorses. With a passion for competition, he began his riding career as an amateur. In ’93 and ’94, JW rode and finished the notoriously difficult Maryland Hunt Cup race.
At 18, he turned his hobby into a profession and pursued his career as a steeplechase jockey. He also traveled the world, riding races at Cheltenham in England for Martin Pipe, France and Australia.
After hanging up his tack and retiring, JW applied his keen observational ability and diligence with the horses to professionally train for numerous years. He trained 2011 Steeplechase Eclipse Award winner Black Jack Blues(Ire) to a champion year. He later reconnected with the horse and gave Black Jack a second career living the good life on a farm in Monkton.
JW joined the Krauss team in 2018 where he uses his extensive knowledge of horse property and land to unite clients with their dream farms and homes. He provides complete honesty, intense focus, and a true ability to connect and build solid relationships with his clients.
He currently resides in Baltimore County where he spends his free time with his teenage son, Jay. The two both have a love for shooting skeet, riding horses, skiing, and the Rocky Mountains.
