Veterans have given so much of themselves that we kind of think just one day of honoring their service doesn’t quite cut it. Well, Baltimore County Animal Services seems to agree. That’s why all week long, they’re offering a special promotion to help make it easier for veterans to adopt a loving pet and bring a furry companion home. Through Sunday the 16th, the shelter will waive animal adoption and spay/neuter fees for veterans who are Baltimore County residents. In addition, during the remainder of the year, veterans living in Baltimore County will receive a 50 percent discount on animal adoptions and spay/neuter services. Now that’s a way of saying “thank you.”
“Our veterans have given innumerable hours of service and sacrifice for our country,” says Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. “We hope to both reward and thank them in some small way with these fee waivers and discounts.” As anyone who has a beloved four-legged friend in their life knows, pet ownership offers a number of benefits, including reduction of anxiety and development of empathy, fun and stress reduction, and of course a reason to get out of the house, spend time outdoors, and meet new people. “There’s no question that having a pet can increase your quality of life,” says Baltimore County Council Chair Cathy Bevins. “The Pets for Vets promotion is a win-win, offering residents a financial discount, and the animals adopted from our shelter, safe, permanent homes.” We couldn’t agree more.
The Pets for Vets program lasts through Sunday, November 16th. For more information, visit www.baltimorecountymd.gov.
