In a radio interview Sunday, Ben Carson blamed “the hip-hop community” for the destruction of African American values, and then quickly (and radically) redefined the phrase “hip-hop community,” Business Insider reports.
Carson spoke of the need for African Americans to reestablish the principles that saw them through slavery, Jim Crow, and segregation. “Why were we able to get through those?” Carson asked. “Because of our faith, because of our family, because of our values, and as we allow the hip-hop community to destroy those things for us, and as we grasp onto what’s politically correct and not what is correct, we continue to deteriorate.”
Carson was immediately challenged on his restatement of that tired canard, by a caller and then by the host. He responded: “When I talk about the hip-hop community, I’m talking about the aspect of modern society that pretty much dismisses anything that has to do with Jesus Christ, that’s what I’m talking about,” he said.
Someone tell Sam Harris he is now technically a hip-hop artist.
