Ben Carson: Being Gay “Absolutely” a Choice, Just Look at Prisons

Dr. Ben Carson was interviewed on CNN’s New Day this morning. And after saying something relatively reasonable about same-sex marriage (that it “should be determined at the state level”),  the former Hopkins neurosurgeon who is now formally exploring a presidential run said something pretty darn unreasonable about sexual orientation.

Carson said that being gay is “absolutely” a choice. Why would he say that? “Because a lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight, and when they come out, they’re gay. So, did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question.”

And that’s it. That, according to Carson, is enough to “thwart” the position (endorsed by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, among others) that sexual orientation isn’t a choice.

I’ve been on a self-imposed Ben Carson fast lately, so just in case you missed it, I wanted to let you know that he recently said the president could be guilty of treason for using his veto power and that there should be no rules in war.
