Black Friday in Baltimore in Hampden

So how’s everyone’s turkey hangover? Did everyone else have pie for breakfast today? Assuming you’re reading this from somewhere other than the Toys R Us escalator or the probably-empty-by-now racks at Macy’s (which, if you are in either of those places:  Put down the device! You need to be alert! It’s a jungle out there!) you’re probably spending the day recovering from yesterday’s feasting and bracing for the full-on holiday season that has officially begun. Why not get things off to a pleasant (and quintessentially Baltimore) start by heading down to The Avenue in Hampden for great deals, local finds, and the opportunity to stroll off that second slice of pecan pie from last night.

If you’re still wondering what all this Small Business Saturday stuff is about, the short story is that American Express is encouraging shoppers to make holiday purchases at small businesses like Hampden’s Double Dutch, where you can get $25 back when you make an initial purchase with a qualifying American Express card. Be sure to stop by Double Dutch not only for the fabulous clothes and accessories, but also to see (and potentially purchase) the recently installed fashion prints by local artist Elena Johnston.

For those planning to do their shopping today, many of the Avenue’s shops are staying open late—a la Hampden’s “First Fridays.” Participants include Ma Petite Shoe, Parisian Flea, and Avenue Antiques. K Station Boutique (specializing in lingerie and other unmentionables) is offering sales of up to 60%. Urban Baby’s 20% off sale runs today and tomorrow, but if you stop in between 3pm and 5pm today you’ll get 30% off any purchase. The list of great deals and fabulous shopping opportunities on the Avenue goes on—but we can’t possibly list them all here. We’ve got to get back to packing our rations of leftovers so we can (maybe) head out and take advantage of them ourselves.
