Charm City Cakes owner and former Ace Of Cakes star Duff Goldman’s offer of a free wedding cake to a lesbian couple who was denied one by a Portland baker, is featured in Us magazine this week.
“This is a problem I can fix by making a cake!” Duff tells the tabloid. The couple’s request for the cake was originally rejected by Portland bakery Sweet Cakes by Melissa owner Aaron Klein. “They can buy my stuff,” he said, but refused to make the cake because, “marriage is a religious institution ordained by God.”
Goldman doesn’t see it that way. “For a cake decorator to really feel like he really needed to take a stand…it just makes absolutely no sense,” Goldman told the Huffington Post. “It’s petty, it’s small…this man has wrapped up his hatred in the cloak of religion.”
The former Ace of Cakes star told the couple he would “make you a cake for free, drive it up to Portland — no charge — just to right this wrong.”
His position on the controversy is winning him famous fans. After he tweeted about his cake stand, Ellen DeGeneres tweeted, “I love you,” Us reports.
