Even for those of us who consider ourselves real culture vultures, I’m gonna bet that most of us just don’t see that much dance on the regular. We may go to plays, films, concerts and lectures, but for many, dance can be a little less on our radar. Even if we like to go out dancing, or take dance classes (Zumba, anyone?) when we think of watching dance performance, many times, our only point of reference is The Nutcracker. Luckily, you can change all that this Friday, with a special, one-night only performance at Theatre Project from The Campbell Dance Experience– some of the most remarkable contemporary dance that the city has to offer. The Campbell Dance Experience (CDE) has performed at Theatre Project before, and this Friday they’ll be there performing External/Internal, a work featuring the choreography of Algernon J. Campbell, the company’s founder and Artistic Director, as well as by Iris Andersen. CDE is a company of seven Baltimore/DC area dancers, and includes graduates of Baltimore School for the Arts, Towson University, and more. These amazing performers have trained around the world and worked with well-known greats such as Alvin Ailey, Arthur Mitchell, Milton Myers, Bill T. Jones, David Parsons, and Baltimore’s own Vincent Thomas. This new work promises to be an evening of dynamic movement that showcases these incredible talents that are home grown but world class.
The Campbell Dance Experience performs at Theatre Project Friday, August 22 at 8pm. More information and tickets are available at www.theatreproject.org.
