Representatives of former Johns Hopkins neurosurgeon and Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson told Politico today that the candidate never applied nor was granted admission to West Point.
Carson has made the claim several times, including in his recent book, “You Have a Brain.”
Carson Campaign Manager Barry Bennett explained to Politico that the doctor was told by top brass in the military that with his record he could easily get into the venerable military institution.
“He was introduced to folks from West Point by his ROTC Supervisors,” Bennett said. “They told him they could help him get an appointment based on his grades and performance in ROTC. He considered it but in the end did not seek admission.”
