The definition of contemporary design, this  home was actually Streuver Bros.’s  original model for the community when it opened in 2008.  Only the finest went into the construction, including original ironwork designed and forged by local master John Gutierrez of Gutierrez Studios, top of the line kitchen and beautiful woodwork throughout, showcasing what was possible in such a beautiful space.

Fierce Chicks Rock Throw a Rocking Yard Sale

Moveable Feast is a phenomenal organization.  They provide healthy meals for Maryland residents with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other severe illnesses.  A variety of local organizations have come together to raise money and find food to help further Moveable Feast’s mission, from Gather Baltimore to Fierce Chicks ROCK.  Fierce Chicks is a group of determined women who fundraise throughout the year for Moveable Feast.  Each May, they bike over 140 miles from Ocean City to Baltimore in two days, with each woman raising $1,300 – the cost of feeding one client at Moveable Feast for an entire year.

Tomorrow they are throwing their annual yard sale, with all proceeds to benefit their fundraising goal.  From 7:00a to 1:00 pm they can be found at the corner of Barclay and 31st in Charles Village, just a few steps away from the Waverly Market.  Stop on by to see what goods they’ve found, what deals abound, and help these incredible women reach their worthy goal.

A Little Explosion to Start Your Day

“Hey Baltimore, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT??!!!,” one of my Facebook friends wrote yesterday morning. Other folks quickly chimed in about the huge boom and subsequent heavy rumbling that shook the Woodberry/Druid Hill/Hampden region; guesses included a meth lab explosion, a truck that had flipped over and was being dragged down a hill,  or”something huge falling off a cliff.” But rest easy, Baltimore — that explosion was on purpose.

Union Craft Brewing to Open Next Month

A new, locally brewed beer is coming to a pub near you.

After months of preparation, Union Craft Brewing in Woodberry will launch two styles of beer this month. The brewery also plans to open its tasting room to the public in mid-July. Union Craft is one of several new breweries and beer-themed restaurants to debut in the last year.

On June 29, Union Craft Brewing will launch Duckpin Pale Ale and Balt Altbier, a German-style Altbier at a launch party at Max’s Taphouse in Fell’s Point. The beers will be on draft and also in specialty firkins, or small kegs, with slight variations to the original which make them one-off rarities, says Union Craft Brewing Co-owner Jon Zerivitz.

“I’m super excited, really nervous, but really ready to take the plunge into this. I’m feeling incredibly humbled and grateful for the support the city has shown us so far,” Zerivitz says.

An In-the-Know Real Estate Pro Gives Us Her Restaurant Picks

I have a secret weapon in Nicky Keelty. She’s a dear friend who knows more about Baltimore restaurants (and hotels, shops and salons) than anyone I know. Nicky can conjure up the perfect restaurant for any occasion on cue, and follow it up with an impsossible-to-get Saturday night reservation, all with one swift call. Nicky is connected.

Why is the mother of two on the inside track? It’s her job. As a Senior Vice President, Principal at Cassidy Turley, she leases space downtown. It’s her business to know what, where, when and why.

She’s so genuinely likable and fun, it’s easy to see why any restaurant would happily move her name to the top of the resevations list.

Home cook assessment: Do you consider Durkee onions and Campbell’s mushroom soup legitimate ingredients or cheating?
Cheating, you need to start from scratch. And how would you make those onion things or that soup? I just avoid those ingredients all together.

Saturday night with the husband: Where do you book? What do you order?

Ambassador. Patio table. Chicken tikka masala.
