Ah, Thanksgiving. Whether you’re still recovering from a turkey overdose, or just reveling in the Ravens’ victory last night, we hope that everyone had a warm and wonderful holiday yesterday. And if you haven’t yet gone out in search of today’s many bargains, congratulations. The wisest reveler, in our opinion, knows that the best holiday deals are leftovers for breakfast, and games of Scrabble and Scattergories around the table for the afternoon. But no matter how you spend today (and the rest of this holiday weekend) if your celebrations are anything like ours, there will be wine. Lots of wine. And if you’re a savvy locavore (and who isn’t, these days?) you know that you can’t do much better than to get your wine from any of Maryland’s many amazing vineyards. Maybe you’re not yet fully initiated into the local-wine lovers circle; or perhaps you are, but are looking for particularly unique and hard-to-find varieties. Well, ring in the new year at the Winter Wine Event at the Evergreen Museum, which will showcase the very best of some local wines that don’t always get shared with the masses.
Curated by Jonathan Palevsky and Mary Zajac from WBJC’s Word on Wine, this event is a place for wine lovers to experience the very best that Maryland has to offer in a small, exclusive setting. Wines will be organized by variety, and poured by a winery staff. This means you get the chance to chat with the folks who grew the grapes, and crafted the wine—and they’re always delighted to talk about their process, the many varieties, and what makes each one unique. Can’t get enough from just one event? If you purchase an upgraded ticket, you can attend the sparkling wine reception before the main event, which includes a tour of the Garrett mansion at Evergreen Museum & Library.
The event itself takes place in January, but in honor of Cyber Monday, you can get $15 off of a Sparkling Wine Reception ticket (normally valued at $80). You’ll need the code SIPNSPIT , but if you use it on Monday, you’ll get this limited-time (and limited quantity!) discount. Cheers to that.
The Maryland Winter Wine Event takes place Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 7:30 – 10 p.m.; Sparkling Wine Reception (limited passes available) 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Both events will be held at the Evergreen Museum and Library in Baltimore. For more information, visit www.marylandwine.org.
