Ah, Krampus. He’s just what you need if all the jingle bells and holly jolly are beginning to make you want to fa-la-la your way under a rock. If you’re unfamiliar, Krampus is basically the anti-Santa in traditional Alpine lore. He looks rather devilish and beastly and behaves as such. While Santa brings gifts for all the good boys and girls, Krampus brings coal and other punishments to all of the naughty ones. So it’s fitting that just across the way from Baltimore’s much beloved Miracle on 34th Street lies Bazaar—the impeccably curated curiosity shop. Where else in town would Krampus pick for his local HQ?
On Friday, December 12th, Krampus will swing by Bazaar for an evening of devilish revelry that includes pictures with Krampus, Krampus carols, a book signing with author Matt Lake (prominent Krampus scholar), and even a Krampus-themed ice cream flavor from The Charmery (we’re hoping it doesn’t taste too much like coal). It wouldn’t be Krampusnacht without a Krampus parade, and those who survive can march on down to the after party at Rocket to Venus, just down the block. Though the adult reveling starts at 7pm, you can bring the kids at 5:30 for more family-friendly (though still Krampusy) fun. So save the date and head down to Bazaar. Keep the Krampus in Christmas.
Bazaar will celebrate the Night of the Krampus Friday, December 12th from 7pm-9pm. Activities for kids begin at 5:30. Bazaar is located at 3534 Chestnut Ave in Baltimore. For more information, visit www.bazaarbaltimore.com
