Police and HazMat crews descended on Towson Town Center on Tuesday night after reports that some sort of chemical “irritant” was released. It turns out it didn’t require any sort of hazardous cleanup, but caused problems nonetheless.
According to Baltimore County police, the incident stemmed from a confrontation between two 20-something acquaintances on the third floor of the mall after 8 p.m. A 20-year-old man, who was not identified, pulled out a small canister and sprayed the man with the substance. A pregnant woman in the area at the time was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Several others refused medical attention.
As for the substance, police are still trying to determine exactly what it is, but believe it is in the mace or pepper spray family.
