When it comes to complaining about financial services, Marylanders can tangle with the best of them. According to the records of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, we’re lodging high levels of grievances per capita about mortgages, credit cards, and banks.
Blame it on our education, wealth, and proximity to Washington, DC (which makes us more likely to know the CFPB even exists). At least that’s what experts interviewed by the Baltimore Sun have suggested. And these are experts who say things like, “Education level predicts complaint behavior,” so I’m inclined to take their word for everything.
So the next time a waiter hands you the wrong order, feel free to send it back with even more self-righteousness than usual. This is your birthright, Maryland!
