Spring is simply the best time of year for those of us who love plants. With leaves unfurling and flowers in bloom, one just can’t get enough time in the garden—or enough space for all of those plants we love to take care of. Feed your inner botanist with a shopping spree at the Cylburn Arboretum’s 46th annual Market Day plant sale. You can get your hands on a huge variety of annuals, perennials, native plants, and even vegetables. Whether you’ve got a certified green thumb, or have yet to successfully keep a house plant alive, this plant sale has something for everyone—particularly because the arboretum’s own garden professionals will be on hand to offer expert advice on how to incorporate plants into your space, and then how to keep them healthy and beautiful.
Many of the plants that will be available are grown on-site by the Cylburn Arboretum Association, Baltimore City Recreation & Parks and UME Baltimore City Master Gardeners. Others come from area garden clubs, specialty growers and non-profits. So either way, you know that these plants have been carefully tended with lots of love since their days as tiny seedlings. There will be gorgeous hanging baskets, herbs, trees, shrubs, and a selection of rare and native plants as well. If you haven’t been to the arboretum yet this year, here’s your first really great excuse. If you’re truly a plant-lover, you might want to spring for Friday evening’s “preview night” where you can pay to attend the sale before it’s open to the public. Come to browse, or to shop ‘til you drop. Either way, your inner botanist will thank you.
The Cylburn Arboretum’s 46th Annual Market Day Plant Sale takes place May 9th (preview, 4:30pm-7:30pm) and 10th (open to the public, 8am-2pm). For more information, visit www.cylburn.org.
