If you spent the week mourning David Bowie, a little catharsis is in order. This weekend, they’ll dance in his honor in Highlandtown.
The Creative Alliance is planning a celebration of the great musician on Sunday night, Jan. 17, complete with a dance party. Since you’ve been playing his records all week, organizers also enlisted some Baltimore bands to provide live versions of the musician’s classics. The bands include Home, Guided By Wire, The Jennifers as well as Michael Lowery & Tony Drummond. Jason Willett of True Vine Record Shop is set to DJ.
The music is great, but what will really elevate this party is costumes. The many eras of Bowie provide a host of choices, from Ziggy Stardust to The Labyrinth’s Goblin King. Bowie’s in Space could even be an underrated choice. The Creative Alliance is set to hand out prizes for the best costume, so make it a good one.
While most of the focus will be on celebrating a great life, there’s one nod to Bowie’s cause of death. The event is also a fundraiser for cancer research.
(The date of the event has been corrected.)
