Menswear with diamonds

catch of the day fish (2)To listen to Marilyn, you’d believe that diamonds are a girl’s (and only a girl’s) best friend. Au contraire. The sparkle and refinement of diamonds has a seductive power that doesn’t discriminate. So leave it to the luxury fabric designers at Scabal to create a special line of suit fabrics with actual diamond fragments woven into it. And leave it to Christopher Schafer, one of our favorite local clothiers, to bring such luxury to Baltimore. But maybe we should reiterate, in case you didn’t actually catch it the first time, that this is suit fabric with actual, literal diamonds woven into it. And it’s known as the Diamond Chip.

You’re probably familiar with Christopher Schafer from his myriad local projects. When he’s not busy tailoring the perfect custom suit jacket, he’s distributing suits to men in need through Sharp Dressed Man, or organizing fabulous events with the Baltimore Fashion Alliance. But somehow, he still manages to find the most unique and exquisitely made fabrics in the world, and turns them into some of the most gorgeous menswear imaginable.

Since the late 1990’s, Scabal has launched lines of fabrics incorporating gold, platinum and lapis lazuli in a quest for the ultimate combination of precious stones and superfine fabrics. Their first blend of cloth and diamonds came out in 2001; and while it may sound like this cloth would make for more of a museum piece than wearable suit, that’s just not the case. Scabal is proud to never sacrifice comfort for beauty, and extensive research and development went into designing a cloth that could be turned easily into a stylish, wearable suit. The folks at Scabal, say that it’s for men looking for the “Rolls Royce of suits.” But we say that if you’re going to wear a suit, shouldn’t Rolls Royce quality be what you’re aiming for in the first place?

Christopher Schafer Clothier is located at 1400 Aliceanna Street in Baltimore. For more information about the Diamond Chip line of fabrics available at Christopher Schafer, or to schedule an appointment, visit www.christopherschafer.com.
