DuClaw Brewing Company has collaborated with two other Baltimore-area companies, Wild Kombucha and La Food Marketa, to create three cocktails using beer, kombucha and spirits.


The merry “Berry Christmas” cocktail combines DuClaw’s “Funk” beer with elderberry kombucha, and cranberry and lime juice for a tangy treat.

Meanwhile, the “Strawberries and cream” cocktail marries DuClaw’s “Strawberry Letter 23” beer with some ginger kombucha and Bailey’s Irish cream for a dessert-like adult beverage.

The holiday spirit is definitely alive and well in the “Cervesa Regular” cocktail, which mixes DuClaw’s “Regular Beer” with tequila, agave, lime, mint, and spices.

All three cocktails can be found on La Food Marketa’s menu through the rest of December. The restaurant is open Sundays to Thursdays from 12 to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 12 to 9 p.m. La Food Marketa also has Sunday brunch, and Monday Happy Hour runs all day.

Wild Kombucha donates 1% from every bottle they sell to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and 1% of Icaro brands to arts education in Baltimore City. Wild Kombucha products are sold at Giant, Whole Foods, Mom’s Organic and Harris Teeter, and their new Icaro Yerba Maté can be purchased at Icarotea.com.

Readers can use the recipes below to try their hand at making the cocktails themselves:

‘Berry Christmas’
2 oz cranberry juice
2oz DuClaw’s ‘Funk’
3 oz Elderberry Wild Kombucha
1 oz simple syrup
1 oz lime juice
3 oz hot water
Combine ingredients and serve in beer mug or mug of choice
Candied thyme as garnish

‘Strawberries and cream’
3 oz DuClaw’s ‘Strawberry Letter 23’
1 oz Bailey’s Irish cream
3 oz Ginger Wild Kombucha
2 tbsp of granulated sugar
2 egg whites
Lightly whisk sugar and egg whites together
Add Bailey’s and shake vigorously with ice in cocktail shaker
Fill rocks glass with Duclaw Strawberry 23, Wild Kombucha and one scoop of ice
Strain Bailey’s egg white mixture into rocks glass
Candied lemon wheel as garnish

‘Cervesa Regular’
2oz DuClaw Regular Beer
2 oz Agave Nectar
1 oz Lime juice
2 oz Cascuihin blanco tequila (or tequila of choice)
2 oz Icaro Yerba Mate mint
Aleppo pepper, cayenne, kosher salt rim (proportions to taste)
Rim pint glass with lemon juice and salt mixture
Scoop of ice
Add tequila, lime juice and agave nectar and top with Yerba Mate
Lime wedge for garnish
