About a year ago, my friend Jess Mayhugh of Baltimore Magazine and I had an idea. We wanted to pull together a bunch of Instagrammers in Baltimore for the city’s first Instagram Meet-up. We thought it would be so much fun – meeting people you follow, including local chefs, brewers, farmers, photographers and more. Then, for one reason after another, the event got complicated…and just didn’t happen.
Fast-forward to this summer. I ran into Hannah Ragan of Woodberry Kitchen and it became very clear that we could make the meet-up work at Artifact Coffee, Woodberry’s fantastic coffee shop. I love that place – it’s my go-to writing and caffeinating spot – free wi-fi, parking and sometimes they even play REM records. In the evenings, Artifact becomes pop-up central. They’ve hosted tons of takeovers (did you wait in line for Toki Underground ramen? I did!), special dinners and more. Did you know that each Wednesday Spike Gjerde cooks “Bowl + a Beer” at Artifact? It’s awesome and such a deal at $8.00!
We showed up at Artifact in late June, not knowing if anyone would even come – and they did! About 50 people rolled into our little party to eat, drink and hang. Woodberry pulled out all the stops. Chefs Opie Crooks and Sarah Malphrus put out a lovely buffet, Hannah Ragan poured glasses of punch and bubbles and Bar Manager Andre Barnhill created three punches inspired by Instagram filters – Lo-fi (rye), Mayfair (rum) and Earlybird (gin.) We also served cans of Union beers, which are brewed almost next door to Artifact. The vibe was super relaxed, people mixed and mingled and as they left, they asked when the next one would be. Success!
So, here we are two months later, hosting Instafact 2.0 on August 21 from 6:00-8:00pm. And this time, we’ll be outside in the courtyard behind Artifact, the same site where they host Union Graze in the summer. Chef Opie has recruited a TON of friends to come and cook with him. Look at this list…
We’ll also offer two classic cocktails from the Woodberry bar, the Whiskey Smash and the Farmer’s Daughter, plus beer and wine. Cost is
$10 per person and includes food. Cash bar for drinks.
Even if you’re not an Instagram user, we hope to see you at 2.0! The food, drink and party will be fab!
