TGIFF2013! Know what we mean? On the first Friday of every month, various happenings occur around the city—stores stay open late and galleries host openings and receptions. And this is the first Friday not only of the month, but of the year. So after last month’s non-stop shopping and rushing around, why not enjoy an evening of simply taking in some local culture at the Creative Alliance and grabbing a drink at Clementine’s bar while you’re there.
This Friday (as in, tonight) The Creative Alliance will celebrate the opening of Cindy Mehr’s solo exhibition in the Amalie Rothschild Gallery. Mehr describes her work as collections of “pieces of a fragmented universe, by-products of information smog, and archetypal remnants.” The opening reception begins at 5:30, followed at 7 by an open studio from artist-in-residence Jeremy Stern. And if you just can’t get enough art, stick around for an 8pm screening of work by Baltimore’s best emerging student filmmakers. As the folks at the Creative Alliance say, “Don’t miss our next John Waters or Barry Levinson!” There will be drink and ticket specials as well—so seriously, stay awhile.
