Nothing is static. We are ever changing. That’s the premise behind this new evening of work from Deep Vision Dance Company, which will run at the Baltimore Theatre Project next weekend. The company, founded in 2011 under the artistic direction of Nicole A. Martinell focuses on work that explores emotional complexity and what Martinell calls the “strange beauty of the world around us.” Ranging from abstract to narrative work, Martinell’s choreography illustrates opposing ends of a continuum – an unfolding journey characterized by detailed characters, spiraling phrases, and a continuous ebb and flow of space. That, and it’s mesmerizing to watch.Flux is an evening of works that each capture the flux of human desire, emotion, and ambition. Besides showcasing the choreography of Nicole A. Martinell, the evening will feature her work with various Baltimore-based collaborators including Jamahl Abdul and Tim Nohe. Flux runs next weekend only, with a gala performance on Saturday the 25th that includes a silent auction and a post-show reception. We highly recommend getting your tickets now, for this fantastic evening of dance from one of our favorite local companies.
Flux runs at the Baltimore Theatre Project (45 W. Preston Street in Baltimore) April 24-26. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.theatreproject.org.
