Friends’ all-female a cappella group, The Pleiades, were selected to open for comedian Jay Leno when he presented an evening of chat, comedy and entertainment at the Patricia & Arthur Modell Performing Arts Center at The Lyric on Thursday January 22. Comprised of 12 Upper School girls in grades 9 through 12, the Pleiades is entirely student-directed. Its members annually audition new singers, select and arrange songs, and hold weekly rehearsals outside of school.
“This (was) a remarkable opportunity for these girls and a testament not only to our School’s choral music program but to its focus on community,” says Principal Steve McManus. “These girls are already members of the Upper School chorus and several sing in the chamber choir, yet they choose to come together to share their passion fora cappella music.” Watch a video of the 2014-15 Pleiades performing Billy Joel’s 1989 ballad “And so it goes.”
