Former U.S. Rep. Helen Bentley is in ill health.
According to WBAL, Bentley was discharged from the hospital and entered hospice care this week.
Bentley’s name goes hand-in hand with Port of Baltimore, which was her passion throughout her career both as a reporter for the Baltimore Sun and lawmaker. She also hosted a local TV show about the port’s history. She was also the first woman to chair the Federal Maritime Commission.
Bentley served in Congress for 10 years, representing parts of Baltimore County. She unsuccessfully ran for governor in 1994.
