Hopkins Employees Eyeing $36K in Home-buying Incentives Getting Set for Lottery

Johns Hopkins employees looking to buy a home are getting set for a big drawing on Saturday.

Over the summer, the university’s Live Near Your Work program introduced an incentive program for employees looking to buy a home. The program is offering essentially a one-day sale for new homes in the Eager Park area that’s north of the Hopkins medical campus. The offer is a package of $36,000 worth of incentives, but in many cases the homes aren’t built yet.

The employees will find out where they’re going to live on Saturday, Sept. 10.

It sounds a bit like a TV show, without the whole watch-the-renovation part. Employees who went through the necessary prep are set to gather under a tent at 1050 Rutland Ave. There will be a lottery to choose the order that the homebuyers get to choose, then they’ll pick from 32 yet-to-be-built townhomes. Ten newly renovated rowhomes will also be available. There could be more participants than homes, and in that case a waitlist will be created.
