If you too woke up this morning with something of a gingerbread and eggnog hangover, you’re not alone. By our watch, it’s been about a month now of feasts and fests, and most of our activity during that time has been in the kitchen, rather than at the gym. But New Years is right around the corner, and with it, the time of resolutions. Whether you’re just looking to burn off some of last night’s glug and goose or planning for a 2014 fitness jumpstart, you can find some support by joining the 7th District Get Fit Challenge, spearheaded by Councilman Nick J. Mosby
Councilman Mosby’s Get Fit Challenge aims to add a splash of empowerment to community New Year’s fitness goals by providing accessible, affordable health screenings, exercise incentives and nutritional information to participants. The “Get Fit” challenge will launch on Monday, January 6 with a “Big Kickoff” at Mondawmin Mall Courtyard from 6 – 7:30 p.m. The event will include blood pressure, diabetes and body mass index screenings, a chance to meet various participants, including chef Jerry Pellegrino of Waterfront Kitchen (who’s joined the challenge and will be offering healthy eating and cooking classes) , and a 30-minute Zumba class. Of course, there’s so much more, but aiming to make it to the kickoff is a great place to start.
