We hope everyone is enjoying their snow day as much as we are. And sure it’s cold out, but a little bit of sunshine sure does turn a daunting winter day into the perfect opportunity for a winter frolic. But if things like sledding (or sliding around slick roads in your car) don’t exactly float your boat, might we recommend heading (carefully) down to the Creative Alliance this evening—where the rich a capella vocal traditions of renowned Bulgarian singer Tatiana Sarbinska and her group Orfeia, will be warming up the joint all evening long as part of a Koleda Celebration for the new year.
Transporting audiences to the mountain villages of the Balkans, Orfeia will join tonight with Svitanya, the accomplished women’s vocal ensemble from Philadelphia which performs Eastern European folk and work songs, as well as contemporary compositions. In the Bulgarian Koleda tradition, in the dim light of mid-winter (sound familiar?), villagers honor the past, celebrate the present, and look forward to a healthy and abundant new year. If these breathtaking harmonies and haunting melodies don’t warm you from the inside and inspire you for the year to come, we don’t know what will.
Tonight’s performance begins at 8pm. Tickets are $16, $11 for members. For more information, visit www.creativealliance.org.
