If this year’s Maryland Film Festival is already seeming like a distant memory, and you’ve begun to crave another hit of off-beat, independent films, the Creative Alliance has your number. This weekend, they run the 3rd annual Charm City LGBT Film Festival, which promises a variety of unique and riveting films. The selections all feature LGBT themes, of course, but represent stellar film-making and make for excellent entertainment for audiences of all stripes. Each day of the festival features non-film activities, like a gallery talk or a happy hour, too—so you can get your cinema, your cocktail, and a little extra culture on the side.
The six films presented this year come from all over, and they’ve been carefully selected; having played at some of the most prestigious LGBT film festivals in the world. Tonight, you can see Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, a film from Taiwanese director Arvin Chen. It’s a madcap comedic romp wherein the introverted optometrist Weichung begins to question his marriage with his wife when he bumps into his old friend Stephen, awakening dormant emotions and setting him off on a quest for true romance and desire. Afterward, they’re screening VALENCIA: The Movie/s, a collaboration between a national community of 20 queer filmmakers to adapt the underground classic memoir into a kaleidoscopic vision of San Francisco’s Mission District in the early ’90s. And of course there’s much, much more all weekend.
The Charm City LLGBT Film Festival takes place this weekend, running through Sunday, June 1st. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit www.creativealliance.org.
