You’ve got to hand it to the folks who invented pizza and pasta—they know what makes a good time and what makes a party. Just as a traditional Italian meal includes course upon course of meticulously crafted food, Little Italy’s summer outdoor film series offers so much more than just the chance to plop down for a flick. In Little Italy, the evening begins with a stroll through the neighborhood and (if you’re smart) a movie night dinner special at one of its amazing restaurants. Many even offer carryout for the occasion. Then there’s live music at 7pm and a film at 9. So we can easily guarantee you’ll be full by the time you head home.
The film series is certainly one of Little Italy’s more popular events, having existed since 1999. This week (films are shown on Fridays), they’re taking it way back with King Kong (the original, of course). But there are plenty more offerings throughout the summer until Labor Day. It’s sure to be a popular one, so arrive early, if you can. Another benefit to arriving early is that the film fest provides a limited number of folding chairs for folks who don’t bring their own. And besides that, they provide free popcorn. Italian hospitality plus great films? Yes, please.
Little Italy’s Open Air Film Fest runs through September 5th, with films show Friday evenings. Screenings are at the corner of High and Stiles Streets. For more information and complete listings, visit www.littleitalymd.com
