Clerk Kills Suspect Attempting to Rob Towson Liquor Store, Police Say

bcountypdA man who was allegedly attempting to rob Towson Wine and Liquors was shot and killed by a clerk at the store on Monday night.

According to Baltimore County police, 25-year-old Claude E. Mayo and another man entered the Pennsylvania Ave. store. Mayo pulled out a gun, and police say he aimed it at the clerk’s head. Instead of grabbing cash, the 68-year-old clerk then produced his own handgun, police said. He shot Mayo multiple times.

Mayo and the other man fled, but Mayo collapsed near the liquor store. He later died at the scene. The other robbery suspect continued to run, and has not been located by police.

Police said they will turn over findings to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney once the investigation is complete.
