The Maryland SPCA’s 18th Annual March for the Animals will take place on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Druid Hill Park in Baltimore. Animal lovers and their four-legged friends are invited to participate in the 1.5 mile walk-a-thon and festival to help raise funds to provide care, shelter, food, spay/neuter procedures and medication for the homeless pets in the MD SPCA’s adoption center. Last year’s March raised more than $342,000.
“We do not receive any operating funds from the government or money from any other animal welfare organizations,” said Tami Gosheff, MD SPCA special events and outreach coordinator. “March for the Animals raises critical funds that are needed for the Maryland SPCA to save the lives of nearly 3,000 pets each year.”
Registration for the walk-a-thon opens at 9 a.m. and starting line ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. Druid Hill Park is located at 3001 East Drive, Baltimore, 21217.
In addition to the 1.5 mile walk-a-thon, the day will showcase adoptable dogs from the MD SPCA and other local shelters and rescue groups, a demonstration by Mid-Atlantic Disc Dogs, pet training tips, low-cost micro-chipping, a “flea-less” market of pet friendly vendors, musical chairs for dogs, a pet costume contest judged by celebrity guests, great food and Baltimore Ravens giveaways. Ravens player Arthur Jones will be at the starting line and will be available for photos and autographs.
Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers, including a grand prize trip to the Bahamas. Registered participants will receive an “I Marched to Save Animals” T-shirt and a special “doggie bag” that includes treats, a dog bandana and other giveaways.
Participants can register online at www.marchfortheanimals.org and create personal fundraising pages. Or, participants can pick up pledge sheets at the Maryland SPCA, located at 3300 Falls Road.
