“Gentlemen, start your engines…” That’s a thing, right? Well, it may be both apt and not apt for this weekend’s Maryland Meetup event at 16 Tons in Hampden. Let’s start at the beginning: 16 Tons, if you didn’t know it, is the semi-new, totally cool-hip-manly-but-stylish menswear store on The Avenue in Hampden. And they’re hosting the Maryland Meetup—a motorcycle event presented by Café Racer XXX—featuring the Moto Lady. If you’re not up on your woman-oriented motorcycle blogs, we’ll get you up to speed. Moto Lady is something of an Internet sensation—a blog by a woman who’s knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all things motorcycle related. And her big cause is to reshape the way people view motorcycles and the people who ride them, and to make the sport (hobby? lifestyle? method of transportation?) more accessible and less intimidating to women who might be interested. And she’s coming to 16 Tons this Sunday.
16 Tons the perfect place for guys who take pride in their appearance—but in a secret, “this old thing?” kind of way. You know what we mean. Flannel shirts that look like they belonged to your grandfather (the one who was a lumberjack), pomades and aftershaves that could have been lifted directly out of a barbershop in 1920, and boots that could convince anyone that you’ve just come from a hard day’s work. At the event on Sunday you’ll be able to meet the Moto Lady (ask her anything! She’s a wealth of information!) schmooze with other moto-enthusiasts, throw back a couple of brews (or glasses of wine if you’re feeling dainty) and just generally revel in all things “vroom-vroom” related.
16 Tons is located at 1100 W. 36th St in Baltimore. For more information, visit www.shop16tons.com. For more information about Moto Lady, visit www.themotolady.com.
