Maryland surgeon contracts Ebola in Sierra Leone
Dr. Martin Salia

Dr. Martin Salia, 44, is a citizen of Sierra Leone but lives in Maryland as a legal U.S. resident. While treating Ebola patients in Freetown, the West African country’s capital and largest city, he contracted the virus himself, becoming the sixth surgeon to do so.

Salia began his receiving treatment there after testing positive on Monday. His wife, who also lives in Maryland, asked the State Department to look into whether Salia was well enough to be flown to the United States. And tomorrow he will be transfered to Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for further care.
