Baltimore has its fair share of great craft fairs– particularly this time of year. But probably our absolute favorite is the MICA Art Market. We look forward to it every year for a couple of reasons. Firstly, since many of the vendors are students, it’s markedly different from year to year. And we all know that those MICA students can dream up some pretty wild and creative stuff. So it’s guaranteed to not be your usual holiday craft fair. You can find hats and scarves that only an avant garde painting student could dream up, or conceptually designed pencils (seriously), or simply lovely paintings, drawings, and prints. The fair begins today (Wednesday, December 10th) and goes through Saturday the 13th. It’s a great way to find truly unique (and locally made) gifts while supporting local (and still up and coming) artists. And while the students, faculty, and staff who sell their wares keep most of the money (of course), a portion of all sales do go to need-based scholarships to MICA, making it a worthwhile fundraiser, too. So head down any time between today and Saturday for some of the best holiday craft fair shopping you’re likely to find.
The MICA Holiday Art Market is held in the Brown Center at 1300 W Mount Royal Avenue in Baltimore. For more information, visit www.mica.edu.
