So, the name of this column is “Catch of the Day.” It’s fitting for those of us who are into all things new, shiny, and happening right now. And when we hear of something particularly exciting, we try to get the word out early; that way, those whose social calendars require planning some days ahead can do so. It takes all kinds, as they say. Well, this week, even we are marking our calendars in advance, in anticipation of MICA’s 20th Annual Benefit Fashion Show—one of the most fun, inspiring, and quintessentially Baltimore fashion events of the year.
The fashion show features impressive work from a number of MICA students, with work that runs the gamut from “ooooh, I’d totally wear that,” to “file that one under ‘wearable art.’” But certainly, the variety and the boldness with which these students approach their runway’s fashions will be refreshing to anyone who looked at this year’s New York Fashion Week offerings and thought, “really? That’s it?” As always, proceeds from the Annual Benefit Fashion Show help support students involved in diversity programming and scholarly pursuits through the Office of Diversity & Intercultural Development, which sponsors the show. The event is one of many ways MICA provides comprehensive diversity programming to support the academic and social needs of all the College’s students. It’s also one of the many ways that MICA’s programs continue to infuse the city with creativity and innovation, for which we are grateful.
The 20th Annual MICA Benefit Fashion Show takes place April 13 at 8 p.m. in the Brown Center at MICA (1301 W. Mount Royal Avenue.) Tickets are $15 for students, $20 for the general public. More information and advanced tickets (recommended) can be found at www.mica.edu.
