Michael Phelps arrived at the ESPY Awards last week with a new gal pal on his arm: Win McMurry, a Golf Channel reporter who has been dating the Olympic swimmer and Baltimore native since June.
The couple met when Michael appeared on The Haney Project, the Golf Channel reality television show.
The older woman (she’s 30; he’s 28) was raised in North Carolina and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She picked up golf at an early age, hitting the links with her father as a child.
The blond beauty– she was named Sports Illustrated’s golf number one beauty–got her start as an intern at CBS Sports and has been working in sports journalism ever since. She currently hosts a web series, contributes to Grey Goose 19th Hole and other shows.
While she is well-regarded as a journalist, she is also well-known for an on-air gaffe that she made about Tiger Woods when he suffered a back injury in 2010.
She was a good sport about the embarrassing error, explaining in a blog interview: “At the time, I only thought I stuttered my misspeak. After all, I was live on-air and had to keep on going. But, when I was alerted to the fact by my producer after we were off-air, I’m sure my face turned bright red! With nothing to do except laugh at it like everyone else that’s what I did!”
Phelps won Best Male Olympic Athlete and Best Record-Breaking Performance at the awards show.
