So, it’s not exactly, Christmas in July, but it’s close. Every holiday season, the Charm City Craft Mafia puts on their famous Holiday Heap—one of our very favorite craft shows around. “The Mob,” (as they’re known) put on great (if too-crowded-with-shoppers-to-navigate) craft shows that always feature some of the best crafters and artisans from around town and away. What I like best about The Mob’s craft shows is that they always feature a great variety of wares. There’s something for everyone and every budget, and there are always local foodie favorites like Kinderhook Snacks around to provide the fuel you’ll need to shop. The Mob keeps it simple by only organizing a couple of craft shows per year—and one of them is this weekend.
Pile of Craft (as this weekend’s craft show is known) is the perfect opportunity to see the latest creations by your favorite local crafters. If you’re a fan of Cotton Monster, Red Prairie Press, or Baltimore Papercuts, you can look forward to seeing them this weekend– and surely with brand new stuff. Returning out-of-town artists we love include Metamorphosis Metals (pictured above), and Horrible Adorables. I’m personally proud to say that on a recent visit, my mother was wearing the hair accessories I’d bought her as a birthday gift from Hannah’s Ideas in Wood (she’ll be at Pile of Craft, too—Hannah, not mom). If you’re still kicking yourself for not springing for that ceramic mug or one-of-a-kind necklace in December (sure, it’s hard to spend on yourself when it’s all about gift-giving) this is your big chance. See? Christmas (kind-of) in July (er.. June).
Pile of Craft takes place this Saturday, June 22 from 10am-5pm at 2640 St. Paul St in Baltimore. For more information, visit www.charmcitycraftmafia.com.
