We’re filing this one under “only in Baltimore…” But also, we want in. Tired of the same old flowers, chocolates, dinner-and-maybe-a-show-or-a-movie thing for Valentine’s Day? Does the human race’s record on stable, committed relationships depress you? Looking to bring back some of the animal passion that you’re sure your relationship had at some point? Or do you just want confirmation that bodies and biology are gross and we’re all just pre-programmed skin-covered bags of hormones? Well, the Maryland Zoo has just the thing for you and that special someone with whom you share these idiosyncrasies. Cancel the flower delivery and make reservations now for “Sex at the Zoo: A Special Adults Only Event.”
Seriously, though, this event does sound pretty unique. From 6pm until 9pm on Valentine’s Day, while everyone else is sitting in cramped restaurants, being moved along to make room for the next reservation, you could be at Sex at the Zoo, “one of Baltimore’s most provocative and wildly romantic events.” Over the course of the evening, the zoo’s veterinarians and animal keepers will expose you to some of the primal, bizarre, and totally unique courtship and mating rituals from the rest of the animal kingdom. Enjoy all this plus an open bar, sumptuous hors d’oeuvres and decadent desserts. Though the romantic atmosphere might get you in the mood to try some of these new moves at home, tread carefully—the zoo warns that this is not for the faint of heart. And though the animals will all be appearing in the buff, cocktail attire is suggested for humans.
Advance tickets are required (and limited!) for Sex at the Zoo, and the event is 21+ only. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.marylandzoo.com.
