Such is life for the dedicated bohemian. Unless of course you’re Erik Johnson, the renowned traveling silhouette artist. That’s right: he travels the country creating hand-cut silhouettes—a traditional form that his family has practiced for three generations. As classic as the medium is, it’s clearly still as charming and resonant as ever—Johnson has become something of a celebrity in the world of portraitists. And he’s coming to the Baltimore area for one day only.
This Saturday, Johnson will be setting up shop (or studio, rather) at Wee Chic. It’s a fantastic children’s boutique in Green Spring Station, so you can shop while the little one sits for his or her portrait. But don’t be alarmed—Johnson knows his subjects. Children only have to sit for five minutes and Johnson does the rest. You can call Wee Chic to schedule an appointment for Saturday; or simply drop in, peruse the back-to-school clothing, and watch Johnson magically snip away.
September 8, 10 am to 4 pm at Wee Chic Boutique. Green Spring Station, 10751 Falls Road, #101, Lutherville, MD.
The cost to purchase the first silhouette of each child is $25 and copies are $15. For more information or to book your appointment, call 410-878-7400 or www.facebook.com/weechic.
