Merriweather Post Pavilion is about to spend some of the $19 million (half of which is coming from the city of Columbia) it has slated for renovations over the next five years on eco-friendly upgrades. And we partly have pop-folk singer Jack Johnson to thank for it.
According to Baltimore Business Journal, the musician “has pushed for eco-friendly practices at the venues on his tour,” and Merriweather took him up on it. Johnson was even in town Thursday to unveil plans for the renovations beside Howard County Executive Ken Ulman and promoter Seth Hurwitz.
The green tweaks will include a system for collecting storm water runoff that will then be used to irrigate the grounds, dodecatupling the capacity of their solar power system, replacing all the lights with LEDs, and renovating the restrooms and concession stands.
