In the midst of what was by all accounts a truly spectacular Star Spangled Spectacular on Saturday night, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who has been “struggling with a case of bronchitis and an upper respiratory infection,” was rushed to University of Maryland Medical Center with shortness of breath and chest pains.
After the mayor was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon, she has canceled all public appearances Monday to “concentrate on returning to optimal health.”
In a statement this morning, Rawlings-Blake said she plans “to take time to rest today, while also monitoring the operations of my office and ease my way back into the swing of things over the next couple of days. I have received so many e-mails, texts, and tweets from family members, friends, city residents and visitors who have reminded me that I have to take care of me in order to be any good to our great city. Therefore, I am adhering to their wise counsel and will resume my regular schedule very soon.”
