Will Rogers said, “If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.” Not a bad idea. Surely any doggie afterlife is full of play and enthusiastic affection; and it’s probably a place where all food tastes good. Plus, we feel such kinship with our furry friends that the idea of being eternally separated from our canine companions is just too much to bear. After all, no matter how long or hard your day, no matter how bad of a mood you are in, your dog is there to comfort you—not a care in the world. So why not give back a little bit to the species that gives us so much? Take Fido out for a stroll this weekend with Strut Your Mutt—you’ll both have a good time, and you’ll be helping support animal rescue, too.
Strut Your Mutt is a national event, with walks in cities all over the country. This year is Baltimore’s second. The event features a dog walk, of course, but there is so much more than that. You can visit PAWS & PALS (a painting activity for kids and their pups), an Ask the Trainer session with Ralph Moores of Capital Working Dogs, the Smooch Your Pooch Kissing/Photo Booth, the Barks and Beers tent (pretty self-explanatory), and more. The mutts will strut this Saturday at 9am—perfect canine quality time. So stick your four-legged buddy in the passenger seat, pack a few milk bones, and head out for a woofing-good time.
Strut Your Mutt will take place this Saturday, September 21, at Blob’s Park, 8024 Max Blobs Park Road, in Jessup. Registration begins at 9am, the strut begins at 10. For more information, or to register in advance, visit www.strutyourmutt.org.
