Special Ravens Super Bowl Pie from Dangerously Delicious Pies

catch of the day fish (2)Now, we’re going to try really, really hard this week to not have every single Catch of the Day (or thing we talk about in casual conversation) be about this coming Sunday. But seriously, it’s kind of hard. Super Bowl Sunday has taken on a sort of semi-national holiday status. We make plans. We prepare the meal. We dedicate an entire day to this event—even if we know absolutely nothing about football. Add to that the collective (and palpable) uplift that the Ravens’ participation has brought to the city, and this is basically a mandatory celebration for Baltimoreans. The Super Bowl is America’s second ranking holiday in terms of food consumption (Thanksgiving takes first place, but apparently game day beats out Christmas). To us, this means that we need to be planning big time—whether by creating individually-sculpted raven-shaped marzipan treats Martha Stewart-style  or ordering a king-size bucket of wings from the place down the street. And so, topping our list of Things To Order For Sunday is Dangerously Delicious Pies’ special Super Bowl Pie.

Some Jerk Tries to Trade Ravens Tickets for, Uh, Favors from a “Hot Girl”

Maybe you love the Ravens. Maybe you really want to go to the Super Bowl. But do you really really want to go to the Super Bowl? Now’s your chance to find out, I guess: A guy who I feel I can safely characterize as a jerk posted an ad to Craigslist yesterday afternoon offering a free ticket to the Ravens-49ers Superbowl game in New Orleans. How sweet, right? There were only three catches.

Celebrating That Thing That Happened Yesterday with Faidley’s Crab Cakes

catch of the day fish (2)Frankly, what I like best about last night’s victory is imagining not knowing it had happened. Hear me out: imagine that you were, in fact, living under a rock. You didn’t know that the Ravens had just played and upset the Patriots, but you suddenly heard the screaming, fireworks, honking horns, et al., that immediately followed the game. If it was me, I’d probably assume that everyone on my block was suddenly, all at once, really freaking excited (a few hours late) about Obama’s extremely low-key re-swearing in. Or maybe they all just realized that the following day was Martin Luther King Day and they didn’t have to go to work. Woooohoooooo! The possibilities are endless.

Purple Reign: A Photographic Recap of the Ravens Triumph

The streets of Baltimore were packed last night, but the Ravens’ road to the Superbowl wasn’t a smooth one. Let’s take a quick look back over how we got here — “here” being on the cusp of a Superbowl victory, of course.

8 Reasons the Ravens Will Triumph on Sunday

The Baltimore Sun came up with 52 reasons the underdog Ravens “could” win the AFC Championship game this Sunday; we’ve done them one better and amassed 8 reasons the Bad Birds will triumph.

Playoff Victory Riot Wins New Ravens Fan

Like many middle-aged dudes reliving his teenage years as a weekend rock-and-roll warrior, I play in a band with a regular gig at a bar in Hampden. That means there is a regular time we show up, load in, set up, and play. However, this past Saturday night, a wrench was thrown into our plans: the Ravens in post season!

Ravens Win!: Fan Reactions to that Heart-Stopping Game

Unknown-4Even the most ardent Ravens fans were nervous before this weekend’s playoff game in Denver. (“No way. I don’t think we’re gonna win it guys, I’m sorry,” says the kid in the video above, who might be the most intense Ravens fan I’ve ever seen.) And so, the screams of victory were even louder, at least in my house. Some of our favorite fan reactions are below:

“I watched at a sports bar in Fresno, CA and they got pretty tired of hearing me scream. Caw. Caw regardless. Caw forever.” — Jenn Wasner, musician (Wye Oak, Flock of Dimes, Dungeonesse)

Everyone’s Honoring Ray This Week: $52 adoption fees at MDSPCA

Cocoa in Ravens

This Friday and Saturday, the MDSPCA will reduce adoption fees on all large dogs from $125 to $52.  “We’ve altered #52’s chant, ‘What time is it?  Game time.  Any dogs in the house?  Woo hoo hoo hoo’ to ‘What time is it?  Adoption Time.  Any dogs in the house?  Ab-so-lute-ly!’ says Tina Regester of the MDSPCA.

The dogs will be wearing Ravens’ bandanas and the shelter is decked out in Ravens decorations.

Jail Time for Baltimore’s Self-Styled Batman

Remember Mark Harvey? He’s the guy who “streaked” in a very DIY Batman costume at both Camden Yards and Ravens Stadium to protest bullying. (It didn’t necessarily make a lot of sense, but it was fun and topical.) Well, his brief stint as an amateur trespasser has earned him a prison sentence of 180 days, with all but four suspended.
