What’s better than being the best dressed? Being better dressed. No, we haven’t lost our handle on the English language. We’re talking about the Better Dressed Sale, which is happening next week, and which basically guarantees a year of being the best dressed for all those who make this their first winter shopping stop. Like many of our favorite things, this one also serves to raise money for a good cause. The Best Dressed Sale & Boutique is a fund raising project of The Women’s Board that raised over $200,000 last year alone toward patient care at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Do a little quick math and you realize that that’s a whole lot of really fabulous clothing. And it’s all donated by individuals and local boutiques, with most of the work is done by volunteers.
The sale has been going on for over 45 years now, with a devoted following of shoppers who come from as far away as D.C. to find this year’s treasures. The Women’s Board proudly wear’s the sale’s many success stories on its sleeve. “People have landed jobs wearing a Best Dressed Sale outfit to their interview. Brides have walked down the aisle in their BDS gown. There are shoppers who come for the shoes while others treat themselves to a fur almost every year,” they tell us. And what’s the hottest draw? These days, it’s really good vintage clothing, which the sale will have more of than ever. Admission to the sale is free, though for those true fashionistas, there will be a preview shopping event next Thursday night, where you can get a first look (and chance to shop!) for $45 in advance, or $55 at the door.
The Better Dressed Sale takes place Friday, October 25 through Sunday, October 27. Hours vary. The sale is held at the Evergreen Museum and Library’s Carriage House, 4545 North Charles Street in Baltimore. For more information, visit www.womensboard.jhmi.edu/best-dressed-sale.
