One more reason for Marylanders to be proud of (soon-to-be-former) Sen. Barbara Mikulski: unlike some senators, the 78-year-old actually uses email.
In the wake of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s email scandal (in which it was discovered that she exclusively used her private email address to conduct official business as secretary of state), the New York Times investigated the email habits of U.S. senators and found that some of them don’t use email at all.
Sens. Lindsay Graham, John McCain, Charles Schumer, Orrin Hatch, and Tom Carper are all de facto members of the small but proud “Flip Phone Caucus.” But not Mikulski. When asked about her telecommunication habits, the septuagenarian-plus-eight responded, “Yes, of course I email — I’m modern, I’m contemporary, I’m hot, I’m hip. If they want to cling to papyrus and stylus, they can.”
