Watch Out for Rip Currents, Maryland

Rip Currents

Today’s heat (we’re supposed to break 90 degrees for the first time this month) might be enough to send you running to the beach. But there’s someone to watch out for, and his name is Cristobal. The hurricane is making its way north along the Atlantic coast. And while it’s expected to stay offshore, the storm could create dangerous rip currents — strong, narrow currents that flow away from the shore — at Maryland beaches.

On the other hand, Hurricane Cristobal could also grace the beaches of Ocean City and Assateague with the glassiest, cleanest surf you’ve ever seen in your life, assuming that it stays 500 miles or so offshore, as it’s expected to.

So, um, hurry up and get out there or stay home or whatever
