As children, we counted the days, minutes, seconds until school would be out for winter break. After all, it’s just a non-stop week or two of cartoons, cookies, sledding, presents, and having to wear the occasional ugly Christmas sweater. But for parents, winter break can be a wee bit more stressful than that. After all, you can’t send the kids out to play when it’s 30 degrees. And it’s not quite long enough to ship them off to let camp counselors handle their pent up winter energy. But if you can keep them busy with some of the fun and stimulating activities at Port Discovery this season, you may both be grateful.
From December 26-30, Port Discovery is hosting a variety of fun, interactive and (hurray!) educational Winter Break programs, including live animal demonstrations with WildLife Adventures, winter percussion garden, make-your-own snow, and more. Then, on December 31 (you know, New Years Eve), they’ll be ringing in 2014 before bedtime at the 15th annual Noontime New Year celebration! This year’s event will feature a “Royal Masquerade” theme, and kids are encouraged to dress in their favorite medieval costumes as they enjoy a full day of royal games including ring toss, hopscotch, bowling, and kid-friendly jousting; craft stations to make their own masks, confetti and fairy wands; and entertainment including a dance party with DJ Bobby Nyk and performances by popular children’s musicians. And of course, at noon there will be the traditional juice and cookies toast. Pour one out for me.
