Emmanuel Williams, aka rapper DDm, is kicking off a new career as a commentator on the newsโoffering the kind of sharp-tongued, side-eyeing tea only Williams can.
Earlier today, the first episode of โSecretary of Shadeโ dropped on YouTube. The series comes after Williamsโ Facebook Live reading of โUnhinged: An Insiderโs Account of the Trump White House,โ the tell-all by former Trump aide and โApprenticeโ contestant Omarosa Manigault Newman, went viral, garnering more than 600,000 views.
In addition to catching the attention of The Sun and Baltimore magazine, Williamsโ lively rendition caught the attention of Manigault Newman herself, as well as the political newspaper The Hill.
Williams has said he hopes the videos combat the fatigue of wave after wave of breaking news about the latest scandal or policy battle in the nationโs capital.
โI get so many emails and messages from people who were completely tapped out with the whole situation in the White House,โ he told Baltimore. โThey say Iโve reinvigorated their interest in whatโs going on politically.โ
But Williams doesnโt just serve up his take on politics. Episode One of โSecretary of Shadeโ kicks off with a segment on Aretha Franklinโs funeral: โYโall know Iโm working 9-to-5, bitch. I clocked in and the funeral started, I clocked out with overtime, bitch, and the funeral was still going on.โ
The episode goes on to cover important primary election wins for the Democrats, the article on Stormy Daniels in Vogue, the Sean Suiter case and much more. Also, shout out to the theme song, which is Williams repeating โletโs unpack thisโ over a Baltimore club beat.
