The number of Marylanders hospitalized for coronavirus has gone down for four straight weeks, decreasing by more than half over the past month, state data show.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, 10,648 Marylanders who tested positive were hospitalized at some point, including 544 who are currently hospitalized. The number of hospitalizations has decreased for 28 straight days since reaching 1,338 on May 27.
Of the COVID-19 patients who are currently hospitalized, 331 are in acute care and 213 are in intensive care.
Since the beginning of June, the number of patients in intensive care has been more than halved. After reaching 481 patients on June 2, the number of people in intensive care units started to drop, falling to 212 people on June 22. There are 213 patients as of today.
A total of 65,337 Marylanders have tested positive for COVID-19 and 425,120 have tested negative as of Wednesday morning, according to the Maryland Department of Health’s COVID-19 Case Map Dashboard.
Maryland has reported 10,360 COVID-19 test results in the past 24 hours, with the state having conducted a total of 591,962 COVID-19 tests to date.
Of the tests conducted over the past seven days, 5.17 percent came back positive.
The state’s average rate of positive tests has increased for two days after previously decreasing or flattening for 12 consecutive days.
An additional 15 Marylanders have died due to COVID-19 since Tuesday A total of 2,978 Marylanders have died from the virus, and there are also 130 people whose deaths are suspected to be related to the disease.
As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, there have been 18,151 confirmed cases in Prince George’s County; 14,283 in Montgomery County; 7,652 in Baltimore County; 7,210 in Baltimore City; 4,956 in Anne Arundel County; 2,436 in Howard County; 2,425 in Frederick County; 1,341 in Charles County; 1,082 in Carroll County; 1,072 in Harford County; 1,053 in Wicomico County; 634 in Washington County; 606 in St. Mary’s County; 464 in Cecil County; 402 in Calvert County; 297 in Caroline County; 278 in Worcester County; 213 in Queen Anne’s County; 195 in Kent County; 194 in Allegany County; 183 in Dorchester County; 116 in Talbot County; 84 in Somerset County; and 10 in Garrett County, according to the dashboard.
Maryland has confirmed 1,924 cases in people age 9 or younger; 3,268 in people ages 10-19; 9,524 in people ages 20-29; 12,204 in people ages 30-39; 11,635 in people ages 40-49; 10,317 in people ages 50-59; 7,370 in people ages 60-69; 4,696 in people ages 70-79; and 4,399 in people age 80 or older.
Of the people who have tested positive for COVID-19, state officials have identified 33,931 as female and 31,406 as male.
Of Maryland’s confirmed coronavirus cases, 18,831 have been Black, 17,738 have been Hispanic, 12,797 have been white, 1,278 have been Asian, 3,268 have been another race, and data is not available for the remaining 11,425.
Nationwide, there have been at least 2,347,598 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the United States, including at least 121,225 deaths and 647,548 recoveries. More than 28 million people in the U.S. have been tested for COVID-19 as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to a real-time dashboard created by Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
