A total of 197,520 Marylanders have received COVID-19 booster shots, including more than 58,000 since last Friday, state health officials reported.
Of the initial doses of coronavirus vaccines, 60.34% of Marylanders received both doses of a two-dose vaccine and 5.086% received a single-dose vaccine.
On Thursday, a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel recommended booster shots of Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine at least six months after receiving the second of two initial doses for seniors, people with health issues, and people who live or work in high-risk settings for COVID-19.
Moderna booster shots still await consideration by the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of Friday, Maryland has confirmed a total of 548,743 positive coronavirus cases and 4,321,566 negative tests.
A total of 10,450 Marylanders are confirmed to have died from coronavirus, and 232 people are suspected to have died from the virus.
Since last Friday, the state has newly confirmed 7,116 positive cases and 117 coronavirus-related deaths.
Maryland’s seven-day average positivity rate currently sits at 3.79%.
Baltimore, Howard and Montgomery counties are currently experiencing substantial levels of coronavirus transmission. Maryland’s 21 remaining jurisdictions are experiencing high COVID transmission levels, the CDC recorded.
There are currently 729 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Maryland, including 553 in acute care and 176 in intensive care.
This time last week, there were 791 coronavirus-related hospitalizations.
Of the state’s current COVID-19 hospitalized patients, 547 adults are in acute care and 175 are intensive care. There are six children in acute care and one child in intensive care.
