If you were on Facebook or Twitter tonight, did you notice a red square with a pink equal sign popping up everywhere?

The Human Rights Campaign changed its logo from a blue and yellow square to a red and pink one in support of gay marriage. Now celebrities, activists and politicians โ€” including Governor Martin Oโ€™Malley โ€” have changed their Facebook profile picture to the new symbol to show same sex marriage support.

โ€œRed is a symbol for love, and thatโ€™s what marriage is all about,โ€ Human Rights Campaign spokesperson Charlie Joughin told MSNBC.com on Tuesday. โ€œWe wanted to give people an opportunity to show their support for marriage equality in a public and visible way.โ€
